Lights, flowers, marble! Meet the powder room redesign of 2025

It’s no secret that a well-designed powder room can be a home’s quiet showstopper. When the team at My Joinery, led by the talented Carla Condoluci, took on this compact space, the brief was clear: make it bold, glamorous, and a little unexpected. The result was a perfectly designed powder room that balances moodiness with softness and depth with elegance, thanks to a variety of artfully matched patterns and finishes - including our Flowery wallpaper from the Botanica collection.

We sat down with Carla to learn about how she brought her client’s vision to life, the importance of layering intentionally, and why embracing bold choices doesn’t mean sacrificing cohesion.

What was the ‘vibe’ the client requested for this bathroom reno and how did you go about bringing it to life?

Carla: The client wanted a powder room that felt glamorous, bold, and a little unexpected, something that would make a statement and leave an impression. The brief was all about creating a moody, luxurious vibe with a touch of drama, while still feeling refined and cohesive.

To bring that vision to life, we began with the hero piece, a beautiful marble benchtop that instantly set the tone. From there, we layered in dark, thin shaker-style cabinetry and half-height painted walls with molding to add both depth and a sense of architectural detail. These elements helped ground the space and gave it a tailored, sophisticated feel.

The client wasn’t afraid to be bold and wanted to play with texture and pattern, so we leaned into rich finishes and layered elements with intention. Being a small room, we didn’t want it to feel too enclosed, so we brought in wallpaper above the molding to add contrast and glamour. It was carefully chosen to elevate the space without overwhelming it, striking the perfect balance between bold and beautiful.

Gold detailing added a final touch of elegance, and we kept the fixtures minimal and the joinery robust yet clean-lined, allowing the standout features to shine. The result is a powder room that feels brave, cohesive, and perfectly aligned with the client’s vision.

You’ve used a stunning mix of pattern, print and finishes here – what are your best tips for other renovators on how best to mix elements in a way that feels brave, yet cohesive?

Carla: My best tip is to start with one hero element and let it lead the way. For us, it was the marble benchtop, bold, elegant, and the first piece that truly made our hearts sing. From there, we layered in other elements with intention. Don’t be afraid to mix finishes, patterns, or tones, but always ensure they speak to each other.

We went for a moody, dramatic look with dark cabinetry and half walls, and added touches of gold for a hint of glamour. The wallpaper was part of the vision from the start, but we only committed to it once we felt it would truly elevate the space, not compete with it.

Keep the overall palette tight and consistent in tone, for example, we worked with warm metals and deep, rich hues. And balance your bold choices with restraint. We kept the joinery streamlined, and the fixtures clean and minimal, to allow the standout pieces to shine.

In short: be brave with your choices, but deliberate in how you layer them, that’s the key to making a space feel bold yet beautifully cohesive.

How did you choose the Eurowalls Botanica - Flowery wallpaper for the top half of the space?

Carla: We chose the Botanica wallpaper because it perfectly balanced boldness with elegance. Since the lower half featured dark, painted walls and shaker-style cabinetry, we wanted wallpaper that would introduce pattern and visual interest without overwhelming the room.

The Botanica wallpaper has a subtle 3D element that adds depth and texture, bringing the floral design to life in a way that feels tactile and sophisticated. This dimension introduced a touch of glamour and softness that contrasted beautifully with the moody base, lifting the space and making it feel layered and dynamic.

Its colours also tied seamlessly into the warm gold accents and natural tones of the marble benchtop, creating a harmonious and cohesive palette throughout the powder room.

We chose this style after exploring the Eurowalls website, ordering samples, and finding a design that suited the space perfectly. They were helpful and responsive throughout, and their range of quality wallpapers made selecting the right one an easy process.

We defy another powder room this year to steal our hearts like this one has - but with 2025 only half over, there's still time. As Carla has proven, with a lot of vision and a little wallpaper, you can transform the smallest of rooms into a bold style statement. We can't wait to see more from this team.
